How the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled Supports Homecare Providers and Their Clients
Homecare professionals routinely support individuals whose visual impairments, physical disabilities, chronic health conditions, or reading disabilities make standard print inaccessible. The Maryland State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (LBPD) provides statewide library services that offer these clients greater independence, connection, and opportunities for daily engagement. This session introduces attendees to LBPD’s free adaptive reading formats for books and magazines, as well as its accessible programs, events, and community resources. Participants will learn to recognize clients eligible for services and understand the simple steps to complete and submit an application. The session will also demonstrate how home care professionals can connect clients directly with LBPD for ongoing support and personalized assistance. By understanding LBPD’s offerings and application process, attendees will gain practical tools to help clients access meaningful reading materials, reduce feelings of isolation, and participate more fully in activities that enhance emotional well-being and overall quality of life. The library's website is lbpd.maryland.gov and contains all the information needed to get started with free services.
